Lockehill Chosen Gabriella "Gabby" had six pups by Ch Prairie Chosen Legacy "Rob" on Friday April 30th. Four female and two males all sable and white (see pictures below) . Plan to breed Carrie when she comes in season, maybe fall. When Layla finish her championships, I plan a romance for her too!

Barbara Wright is looking for home for a pretty male pup that will be oversize. Barbara can be reached at 210-698-1125

CURRENT NEWS

Allana Hemenway showed Layla to a 4point major win at the Austin Specialty on May 1st. Thank you Allana and to judge Joy Bass...Layla now needs a major to finish.

Congratulations owner breeder Nancy Keen on her major win at AASSC on Mystique Wikked Prusuit a Lottie great grandson. Layla took another major RWB under Joe Molloy with co-owner Barbara Wright handling.Layla took a 5pt RWD at the Dallas Specialty and her first Best of Breed over three specials at the Cen-Tex show with Allana showing.

Congratulations to Jackie Geister on her two new champions, Ch Prairie Atwater Spring "Sierra" and Ch Prairie Chosen Legacy "Rob". Both champions are tail female to my Lockehill girls. I co-bred Sierra which makes her my eighth bred champion. Allana and Dan Hemenway own and finished Sierra who has now moved to Canada. Jackie and Barbara Wright share Rob who was finished by Barbara.

Also congratulations go out to Tomas and Alane Gomez on their new champion Ch Classic's Favorite Fantasy who is a Lockehill Romancing T'Stone daughter and to Danny and Sheryl Kendrick on their first champion Mara, who is now BISS Ch Kismet's Chosen One. Mara is a Ch Lockehill Chosen Delight daughter......I am proud as punch for them all!

Most photos are by Allana Hemenway of Atwater Shelties

Below are the eight week pictures of Julie and Hanna who are Gabby's pups. Tess, Shannon, Kevin and Brian are off making their new owners jump through hoops. Julie and Hanny are both running at the top of the chart on size so they may be joining their littermates with a new family if they do not slow down on the growth thing. For now there is still hope as they are very pretty girls....oh well, hope springs eternal!

Gabby's pups!

Julie and Hanna

Julie is gitting big so has a new home with Nathan and Brad the two beautiful boys at left. Hanna is the last best hope for a showgirl from this litter. She is running large but if she stays insize, I think I have a new champion in the making. Julie looks like her mother Gabby and Hanny is the image of her sire Rob.

All of the other pups have gone to their new homes. Wish I had enough to go around and I am sorry so many are disappointed.

Lockehill Le Premier Pas "Layla"

Ch Atwater Honorably Chosen x Lockehill Dedicated To Love "Daisy"

Layla is show here taking another Specialty RWB at our Alamo Area SS Club Show with her co-owner/breeder Barbara Wright handling. Thanks to Judge Joe Molloy who also awarded RWB to Layla's half brother Mystique Wikked Persuit.

Allana Hemenway showed Layla at the Austin Specialty to 4pt major! She now has 11 points and needs a major to finish. Allana put 10 of the 11 points on Layla.

Lockehill The Heartthrob "Bobby"

Who says we cannot grow coat in Texas! Bobby went to the Nationals with Rod Oishi and became "The Plush Puppy" and quite the talk at open house.

Well Mr. Bobdog is becoming a nice tri-factored sable. Since he did not get all his premolars and his movement could be better, he will be leaving for new adventures in July.

Lockehill Careless Love "Lovey"

Ch Simmore Master Plan x Ch Lockehill Careless Lillianna

Lovey was bred to Ch Prairie Chosen Legacy "Rob"and delivered her pups on September 12, 2009. She had three boys and three girls, all pure for sable. This is Rob's second litter with two show prospects. Pictured are the two "keepers" Jacob and Jolene at nine weeks.

This is a similar breeding to the one that produced Layla and is the first time I have doubled on Lottie, Ch Lockehill Careless Carlotta who produced three champions for me. Jolene (Lockehill Jolene My Love) is my favorite...a Lottie look alike that is only 14" tall.

The boy Jacob (Lockehill Cowboy Casanova) is very plain but very pretty but alas, he did not stay in and went to a new family.

Jacob (left) and Jolene(right) at fifteen weeks. Jacob looks like his dam and Jolene looks like her double great granddam Lottie and will stay here with me. . Jacob went to Sandi Benton for a while but has gone oversiza.

Laluna

Lockehill Tis Serendipity "Wendy"

Ch Kismet Silver Chalace O Paray x Lockehill Stellaluna

Wendy is my pick from Stella's first litter. She is co-owned/bred with Danny and Sheryl Kendrick of Serendipity Shelties.

Wendy took Best in Sweeps at her first show and took her first point at her next outing. Sheryl took over handling her and added six more points and her first major....now in her yearling shed, it will be fall before she is out again.

Ch Stonerhaven Samurai x Lockehill Dedicated to Love, CGC "Daisy" (born 1/28/07)

Gabby and Gwendolyn are Daisy daughters that I co-bred with Barbara Wright of Chosen Shelties. Daisy is litter sister to Ch Lockehill Chosen Delight.

Gwendolyn took a growth spurt and was placed but Gabby is a showgirl who is right at 16". I hope she will settle in size and be out after her litter.

Gabby is now grown up and will have her first litter in May 2010. Her mom Daisy is now in her retirement home. Daisy blessed me with both Gabby and Layla to carry on for her and Daisy's sister Ch Diedra has given me Carrie. This is the line decended from Lucy (Lockehill Careless Lucinda) so now the sisters Lucy and Lottie (Ch Lockehill Careless Carlotta) are being blended together with great success in my current breedings.

The Calendar Girls!

The lockhill crew made the February layout for Keynote Specialties annual calendar. My son-in-law, Hugh snapped this photo of the girls watching me. They all need a bath and a trim but you can see the "Lockehill" face in all of them. Thanks to Shelby Price for the added garland! Cindy who is second from the right has found her forever retirement home with Ray and Natalie Simon and Jasmine is now living with Sandi Benton as her show girl in residence.

Left to right they are Layla, Gabby, Jasmine, Sabrina, Cindy and Lovey. Missing from the photo are Lottie my matriarch and Faith the youngster.

The Lottie x Hershey Litter
From left are Abby, Lauren, Ch Kahlua
and Bobby.

PleaseNote: If you decide to shop all those "find a pet" websites that are popping up on line, do not believe everything you see. I had this photo of my litter taken and used to market petmill puppies for a broker. When you see an exceptional sheltie marketed in the "newspaper on line" it is most probably a lie, pure and simple. Check them out!

Now for my moment on the soap box!

I am sure the sheltie on the left is much loved but her lack of quality shows!!!   Select your breeder carefully.

We all produce the less than perfect sheltie sometimes but with a quality breeder it is the exception not the rule! A sheltie is a long time commitment, look for the kennel that breeds to the Shetland Sheepdog Standard, one who is active in the show ring and has demonstrated a commitment to betterment of the breed.
Select a breeder who demands you spay/neuter your "pet" sheltie and never agree to a "puppy back arrangement". You should be given a full health guarantee on your pup, don't accept less! Spend time with the pup, check for temperament problems, take note of the enviornment in which the pups are raised, are they and the other shelties clean and brushed? Don't agree to meet at a neutral location, visit the breeder's kennel...what you don't see might hurt you! Never buy a pup from a broker or a pet shop...you have no idea where the pup came from...most likely it's a pet mill. There are sites on the web that broker pups for $1200-$1500 and they are very poor quality...beware the site that has lots of pups available...they are brokers. If you cannot contact the breeder directly, you are dealing with a broker.

Get references and CHECK THEM!  Don't find yourself supporting a "pet mill" breeder where volume is more important than quality!  Beware the kennel with multiple breeds!

The sheltie on the right is what you are looking for!  A soft sweet Sheltie expression, correct ears, lovely eyes, correct lush standoff coat. The whole sheltie is pretty to look at plus she has a lovely temperament to go with it!

Don't be in a rush to buy your puppy, select carefully.  Don't buy from a volume breeder because you feel sorry for the puppy, you just encouraged him to breed again.  Hey! the price is right but think about spreading it out over twelve to fifteen years!  A good sheltie costs more to begin with but the maintenance is the same (except you will probably have fewer vet bills).  Look for a breeder who's first interest is improvement of the breed!  The more questions the breeder asks of you the better.  It is just as important to the breeder that YOU are a good home!

Give the rescues a break....think!
