Whisky is the first homebred Champion bred here at Lockehill Shelties! He was the puppy that almost wasn't as he was pronounced dead by my vet but I would not let him go. He had white tongue and foot pads. Whisky was a beautiful puppy, lots of coat and very independent. His face just got prettier and matured, his body went through the "uglies" and made my heart stop a few times but by six months he was balanced again and it became evident that I had a puppy flyer. I called Sandy Staffan of Fanfare Shelties and asked her to take this poorly trained but promising pup and put some polish on him. She turned him into a showman! At nine months he went to his first show and Sandy showed him to Best of Breed. Shortly thereafter, Winners Dog at the Alamo Area SSC Specialty for 4 points from the puppy class. With another point and two Reserves under his collar, it was time for a coat change.
With new clothes, he went to Guy and Thelma Mauldin and finished his Championship at nineteen months old with three majors. Whisky never wanted to use his ears for me and therefore was never specialed and was used at stud only a few times but in his first litter for Paula Hoover he sired Silkhaven Simple Pleasures who is the dam of CH Silkhaven Simple Treasures
Whisky was retired and lived with Edna and Paul Saylor until his death. He died too young of cancer leaving a giant hole in my heart. He will be greatly missed by Edna who Lost her husband of fifty years, Paul, just months before.
Whisky is the sire of ADCH Fanfare Sky's The Limit,AX,AXJ who is making a name for himself in the performance ring thanks to his owner Miriam Babb and breeder Sandy Staffan. Miriam and Sky are pictured below.
