Youngsters in the community enjoyed the annual
Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Church!
The Easter
Bunny Visits
Belmont!

Little
Andrew makes sure he picks
up
every Easter Egg within reach!!
The annual Easter Egg
Hunt was a great success. The weather was perfect and there were plenty of eggs
left by the Easter Bunny for the youngsters to find! After the hunt, each child
went fishing and each caught a special prize. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed some
wonderful refreshments-there were lots of great tasting cookies made by the
ladies of the church. A special thank you to everyone who baked cookies, made
sandwiches and brought eggs!

The
Church is getting a Face Lift
I am sure everyone has noticed that the church is receiving a much needed
coat of paint! Weather permitting this project should be completed in the next
several weeks. Also being updated are the Sunday School
rooms. The old wall paper will be replaced by a new coat of paint. Cost to
paint the outside of the church is $3940 and to remodel the Sunday School rooms is $910. The church has been in
need of a "face lift" since there haven't been any major repairs done
for several years. In preparing for the 150th anniversary
celebration in 2009, we ask everyone to look closely at all facilities and
recommend any needed improvements or repairs. Think of any problems or issues
that may affect how inviting or accessible our church is. This might be
parking, pews, sound system, restrooms, etc. You can contact any Trustee
(Clayton Lee, Becky Connell, Sandra Terry, Jim Wundt, Bob Kidd or Melvin
Roecker) or Council Chair Mike Bond. Even if money is not available right now,
these suggestions can help with long term plans for the life of our church.

TRANSITIONS by
Brother Paul
We all have them. Those times in our own lives or
in the lives of others around us that are
transitional. Sometimes the transitions are obvious. Sometimes they are very
subtle. Some are as glaring as a national election. Some are as coy as a single
hair falling to the floor. In my first column at my first church, Decker, way
back in 1992, I wrote about some of them: New Year's Day, birthdays, the
election of a new Bishop or the appointment of a new pastor.
It was that last one, the appointment of a new
pastor; I dealt with most back then. Right about now some of you are getting
worried. And, right about now some of you are getting hopeful. before you run off too far in either direction, let me tell
you that I have not had a call from the District Superintendent. (And, yes, he
has already called most of those the conference is planning to appoint
elsewhere.)
Almost sixteen years ago, when I wrote that first
column, none of our children had yet achieved their second digit of age. But
time marches on and now we find ourselves at a pretty large family transition.
The empty nest is coming soon. Next month, our youngest, Barrett, will achieve
one of the big transitions in his life, a High School Diploma. (Congratulations
Barrett, we want you to know how very proud of you we are! And, we're proud
about a lot more than just the diploma!)
Sometimes it takes a pretty big thing to get my
attention. Maybe even as big as a High School Graduation.
But Barrett didn't all of a sudden arrive at this goal. He worked steadily
toward it. In fact, as I write this, he is still working toward it. He can see
it getting closer. He can anticipate the flavor of its completion. He can
almost feel the warm glow of success upon him, yet he is not done. There are
still tests to be taken and passed. There is still work to be finished.
That is quite like our earthly Christian walk with
the Lord. It should be a pretty big thing to us. But we don't all of a sudden
arrive at our goal. We work steadily toward it. We can see it getting closer.
We can anticipate the flavor of its completion. We can even almost feel the
warm glow of success upon us as we draw closer to God, yet we are not done. There
are still tests to be taken and passed. There is still work to be finished. This
is true in our individual lives and in our church life as well. And there is a
final way in which graduation is like our earthly Christian walk. When we have
passed through each, we realize that neither is the end, only a new beginning
in a grander place.
To your transitions and
mine,
Paul
