Ice Cream Social/Fund
Raiser
Our first ice
cream social/fund raiser for the summer was held on June 21st with a
second one scheduled for August 9th. Thanks to church members as
well as many other individuals within the community the fund raiser met with
great success. Well over 100 people enjoyed delicious food and great
fellowship. There were 13 freezers of ice cream in a flavor to satisfy just
about everyone's palate. There were plenty of delicious baked goods for sale
too. The event raised just over $800. A big thank you
to everyone who made sandwiches, brought chips and dips, made ice cream, baked
goods and helped serve and clean up. It took all of us working together to make
it happen. We also want to thank Spike and Marsha Pinney for their generous
donation to the church. The money raised will be used to maintain the church
and get the facilities ready for the 150th anniversary celebration
which will be held on November 8th, 2009.

Homemade
ice cream and great fellowship
-what a
winning combination!

Going back
for seconds?
Our second ice cream social/fund raiser will be August 9th at
6:00 p.m. A sandwich supper will again be followed by an array of homemade ice
creams. A variety of baked goods for take home will also be for sale. Price per
adults will be $5.00 and $3.00 for children under 10. Children 3 and under are
free. We will need everyone's cooperation and help to make
this event another success. Please use the sign up sheet at church to indicate
what you plan to bring. We will also need helpers to work that evening and
everyone to help spread the word. Please help us make this another great
evening!

Date Set for 150th
Celebration
November 8th, 2009 is the date that has been set for our 150th
Anniversary Celebration. To get ready for this event, repairs have begun on our
Church. In preparing
for the celebration, the trustees are looking closely at the facilities to
determine what repairs and improvements need to be made. At the last council
meeting, a discussion was held regarding several suggestions for projects such
as the upgrading of the restroom facilities at the Community Center, the
addition of an awning over the entry way to the Sunday school rooms,
refinishing of church pews, improving the drainage in the parking lot and
possible upgrading of the parking area. No decision was made on any of these
suggestions since much of what can be done will depend upon available finances.
A suggestion was made to possibly focus on only one or two projects such as the
upgrading of the restroom facilities and/or adding the awning over the entry
way to the Sunday school rooms. Further discussion is necessary before any
action is taken. If however, anyone would like to "adopt" one of the projects as a personal
project or contribute financially towards one, please contact Clayton Lee or
Mike Bond. Even if money is not available right now, we can work towards
completing them in the future. A committee was also formed to discuss creating
a booklet that will record the church history, include an assortment of
pictures of the church and events that took place over the years and include
favorite recipes of church members in the booklet. Since our 150th
celebration will be here before we know it, we would like to ask everyone to
begin looking through their pictures now to identify those that depict the
history (i.e. pictures of weddings in the church, Christmas programs, Sunday
school groups, social gatherings, etc.). Copies will be made and the originals
returned to you or you can give your copies to Connie Bond. More information
will be forthcoming whenever plans are finalized. It will take everyone's help
to make our 150th Celebration a success as well as to continue the
life of this church.
Conference Wide Campaign
For the next three years we are participating in a conference wide
campaign to raise $5,000,000 for new church construction. Your contributions
will be greatly appreciated! Just put them in the container on the table at the
entrance of the church. Suggestion: How about $1.00 each Sunday?
New Church Directories
The long awaited church directories should be completed by Olan Mills in
the very near future and hopefully will be available within the next month.
Once they are completed you will be contacted to pick up your directory.

September
is Open House Month-Each year in September, the UM Churches around the
world invite all to enter into fellowship in the program called Open House
Month. It is not an attempt to get people to change churches but to reach
people who do not have a church family. We ask the congregation to remember
this outreach effort in prayer now. Try to think of anyone new in the community
or at work who does not have a church or children who do not attend services
anywhere. Although the events are not finalized, we always try to have a
Fellowship breakfast to get to know new friends; a Funny Sunday with crazy
dress and good Christian humor; a Children's Sunday; and Song
Service. Any new ideas for events or promotion are willingly accepted. Contact Pastor Paul with any questions or suggestions.
School will be
starting soon so let's remember students and teachers as they
begin this new school year. Good luck and God's blessings to everyone.
