GVTC successfully held its 62nd Annual Meeting on June 28, at the New Braunfels Convention/Civic Center. With a quorum established, members voted on five available board of director positions. All incumbent GVTC board of directors were reelected and include George Steinke, District 1; Jameson (Jamey) Arnold, District II; Clint Swindall, District II; Richard Elkins, District III; and Tony Spears, District V. Thanks to all nominees for their willingness to serve on the GVTC board.

The members also approved an amendment change to allow for electronic and mail balloting to bring our cooperative in line with current Texas laws and industry best practices.

Chairman Charles Knibbe announced this year’s capital credits disbursements would exceed $4.8. million dollars. Members who did not pick up their capital credits check at the Annual Meeting had their amount due this year applied to their July billing statement.

President and CEO, Ritchie Sorrells, revealed GVTC would again expand its fiber network to members. At least another 1,000 homes are part of the project. Customers will be notified by GVTC when fiber service is available in their neighborhood. GVTC now has a fiber to the home connection available to 73 percent of rooftops across its 2,000 square mile service area.

The Annual Meeting also included drawings for $12,300 worth of prizes and merchandise, which included a retired GVTC work truck, worth an estimated $6,000. Congratulations to Mark Rosequist for winning the truck. Mark is pictured with his family and drove the truck home after the Annual Meeting.

    2017 Pen Pal Group Shot

After a school year of letter writing between mostly third graders and GVTC employees the day arrived for pen pals to meet each other in person.
A bus load of students Rebecca Creek Elementary and Startzville Elementary arrived at GVTC headquarters for a face-to-face chat over lunch with their adult mentor. Over pizza and a juice pack, they got to know each other better talking about stuff that matters to nine-year old’s. After lunch, the students and their GVTC pen pal toured company headquarters and paused for a photo.

Thanks to our 29 employees who participated in the program. Their time and attention made a difference in the lives of these young students.

When the Blanco Good Samaritan Center needs to get ready for their spring and summer season they call The GVTC Foundation for help. For the third year in a row, GVTC employee volunteers spent some of their Saturday working at the center.

Our employees were assigned to remove winter items that will be donated elsewhere. When that was done the group gave the store a good spring cleaning. The Good Samaritan Center is now ready to restock with new merchandise for warmer weather. When the work was done, the Samaritan Center showed their appreciation by feeding our volunteers lunch.

Money raised from the thrift store operation helps the nonprofit provide food and limited financial assistance to families in need throughout Blanco County. The Blanco Good Samaritan Center is always looking for volunteer assistance or with food and monetary donations. Learn more at www.blancogoodsam.org.

    4K tv image

GVTC is constantly looking to adapt to new technology to bring more value to its customers. Our company is now part of exclusive group of cable TV providers selected to test a unique Ultra HD platform developed by the Luxembourg-based, SES. Only 15 companies, including Fortune 500 company, Frontier Communications, were asked to take part in the testing.

Information collected from our testing results will help SES accelerate the roll-out of Ultra HD programming across North America. SES uses satellite broadband it developed to deliver its Ultra HD signals. SES states its satellite broadband delivery provides a much higher quality viewer experience compared to current Internet-delivered 4K offerings susceptible to bottlenecks, buffering and network congestion. So, if your 4K TV experience isn’t meeting your expectations, GVTC is part of a plan to make it more clear in the near future. http://bit.ly/2lE950V
