What is it?
The Thanksgiving Giveback Project is The GVTC Foundation's largest community service project that provides families a traditional Thanksgiving Meal. To complete this project, we partner with local food pantries, who select the families to receive the meals. Providing this meal allows the families to forget their struggles and enjoy the tradition that is had by others.
We invite local organizations (schools, youth groups, churches, business, and families) to join us in collecting food items and raising monetary donations. Our partnership with the groups provides the opportunity to learn about volunteering and helping others, while earning community service hours. In addition to the local support, we reach out to large distributors to request donations or discounts.
Once the food items are collected, we prepare a food bag with the fixings for the families to prepare their own meals. On the Saturday before Thanksgiving, GVTC Employees and Friends of the Foundation personally deliver meals to the recipients.
Through the food and fund drives in 2020, we were able to provide a meal to 427 families and since inception, we have provided 1,213 meals to families in our community.
What is the deadline to participate?
The GVTC Foundation encourages groups to sign up early. Participation starts as early as August and runs through the 2nd week in November. If you are interested in participating or have additional questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
